GNOME SWEET GNOME (and other forgotten photos)
David had bought 2 gnomes and hid them in the zinnias. I was pleasantly surprised as he doesn't usually do things like that. Now the kids keep moving them and such.
Here is my wrecked car. David plans to get it into the shop when he goes out of town again. Notice the bent in part just under the licence plate.
I am still pretty irritated by the whole thing. I have literally been rear ended 5 times in 11 years and no one has ever gotten a ticket!
And Helen and Zachary riding a camel at the zoo.
To Do List
- Helen- ENT appointment (her doctor, btw, is HOT)
- Library book drop off (didn't make it yesterday)
- Grocery store- we have no food (again- why are we always out of bread and fruit?)
- Shred papers -I have about 6 months' worth of bills and other such nonsense piled up- why is there so much )&_)@&$(&( paper any way?
- Lose 20 pounds
- Call the vet about Ozzy (should have done that already)
- Make hair appointment (when I start to look like my mom, it is time for a trim)
- Pack up school supplies
Last night I made a cute pencil case.

tough
She was talked to during class today and then I made her go to the leadership class after. They talked about positive attributes. She is already acting nicer........ We'll see how the rest of the month goes. I am going to insist that she go to the leadership classes, at least until soccer starts. She actually asked to play this year. I think she hates it that Zachary gets attention for sports.

Pasta Salad
1 box Barilla mini bow ties, cooked in salty water
1 cucumber, seeded and chopped
a bunch of tomatoes (grape, yellow, honey, etc.- some from MIL's garden)
1 shallot, thinly sliced
1/2 bag of frozen peas, thawed
vinaigrette- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/4 cup olive oil, 1 clove garlic (pressed), 1/2 tsp marjoram, 1/2 tsp oregano, 1/2 tap celery seed, 1 TB sugar, squirt of mustard, salt and pepper to taste. Pour dressing over pasta and veggies.
I make my own vinaigrette all the time- it varies every time, but the results are always yummy.

This is a shirt from Noisebot (I want it, hint hint). I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Office. It is one of the only shows I watch. Too bad I am never sure when it comes on, cuz I never get the TV clicker thingie.
We went to the zoo after all. I will post pictures later cuz I am tired and don't feel like looking for the cable for the camera, lol. We got to see Sampson, the baby elephant today. And the kids rode a camel this time. I didn't take a lunch today and spent way too much money. Next time I'll go get some bread (that was the only reason I didn't pack a picnic).
We are going fishing tomorrow. Yes I know, I say I am a vegetarian, but I do eat fish on occasion. So call me a hypocrite if you want, but to me, any factory farm animal not eaten is helping the cause. I will not be partaking in the beef jerky, Dorito and bologna sandwich feast, however. I will be taking fakin, lettuce and tomato instead, lol. I am wiped out and want to go to bed but was conned into movie night- the kids are watching Karate Kid (again). Gotta go make some Kool Aid to go with the burnt popcorn (yummy smell).

Ozzy Update
Ozzy is feeling better. He has started to want to play again, and can bark without coughing. I am so glad and I think that if he was going to have a problem, it would have happened by now. He goes for another test in 2 weeks, then another 4 weeks after that. If both those tests are negative, we will resume HeartGard and be considered heart worm free. Thanks to everyone who thought of us and prayed for Ozzy. I felt silly asking for doggy prayers, but St. Francis himself showed us that to care for God's creatures touches God.......

Gettin' ready
Yeah, maybe skipping the swim is a good idea. The river is about 20 miles away, so it's not like I can just drop in for a an hour and come home- I usually stay all day.

Is it really back to school?

Next week we'll go to Stride Rite and get these lovely school shoes.
Helen hates these things. Can't say I blame her- they aren't very feminine. Zachary already has pants, shorts and two shirts. We still need:
3 jumpers (if hers don't still fit)
3 blouses (I'll get long sleeved later)
1 gym uniform
2 short sleeved white polos (will need long sleeved later, along with some button-down oxfords)
2 ties
1 belt
And then there are the school supplies- what is a "flexible binder" any way?

Goin' on Vacay

We're leavin' in the am; destination Greenville, Maine. We'll be there for the fourth and will no doubt be takin' a ride in the boat to your left. We'll be back around next Wednesday. Then we go camping on Friday. Ozzy is supposed to have his procedure on Tuesday/Wednesday of that week. Then I leave for GA on the next Wednesday, which will give Ozzy 10 kid free days to rest. After that we're home until school starts and then I need to find something that pays me to do something.

The bed The pool table Under the bed- I need to organize

For the uneducated, this is Darth Vader and Boba Fett. Boba Fett is cool because he has a jet pack and awesome weapons. And Darth, well, he is just a bad ass. Should I be concerned about my son's adoration of the Dark Side?

More food shenanigans
Now, what I would like to see is this. Get all that sugar, food coloring, candy and gelatin out of that yogurt. Fruit snacks and roll ups are very popular with the under 10 set, but are really glorified candy. My kids love these, and they are fruit, but oh so difficult to find, and pricey compared to the $1 box of candy fruit snacks. Times are a changin..... that's a good thing. But don't forget we are responsible for reading labels and making decisions, not the guys who make money peddling snacks.

Big Boy Bed
Zachary finally has a big boy bed. About time....at 5 years, 3 months and 3 days, he is 49 pounds and about 48 inches tall. His poor little feet were sticking off the bottom of the mattress (of course, his dad hangs off our bed, too, but that is another problem). Here he is showing off his new bed. And what appears to be a very large bullet. Have I mentioned he is into weapons (his fave color is camouflage)? I still need to arrange the furniture and decorate, but Las Vegas was not built in a day....

I thought Summer was supposed to be fun
7 days
1 bad storm
25 hours without power
2 massive trees down in the front
13 shingles off the roof
105 degrees in the house (heat wave & no power)
3 clogged toilets
1 near drowning
2 ballgames
3 karate classes
1 sparring class
1 run away dog
11 bandaids
It always hits the fan when he isn't here. At least there was no tow truck or ER visit this time. He brought the kids prizes. I got nothing. Figures.

Food Scares the Slop out of Me
Some like to argue that to change our ways would cause people to starve. I say crap to that. How are we starving when we as a culture grow more than enough calories to feed ourselves. The problem lies in WHAT we are growing and HOW we are using it. Corn is a cash crop. Too much is being grown. This surplus is NOT being used to feed starving orphans in third world countries. It is being used to make corn syrup to sweeten products that used to call for sugar. Cows are using it for food. Really. I knew when I was 5 that cows eat grass. Corn cannot be digested by cows, as they have 4 stomachs and the seeds create gas and bloating. This feed makes the cows gain weight and go to slaughter much faster. Good thing because they cannot survive the corn diet for very long without antibiotics. And contrary to what one might think, the drugs are not given to the sick cows. They are given to every cow. The other white meat doesn't fair much better.
Now we have funky tomatoes. I promise that when the source is discovered, the public will not be informed, just as it was with the spinach last year. And the dog and cat food. How many of you knew that part of the problem was MELAMINE? Go on, raise your hands. Not many, huh? I thought dishes were made from melamine. I didn't know that it is an FDA approved form of protein. Hmmmmmmm. Scary.
I have no idea where I am going with this, I just know that people in this country need to get mad. Get fed up. Wonder why we have so much disease, obesity, autism, ADHD...... What are we doing to ourselves and what are we allowing people who are only interested in profit do to our food supply? Wake up and smell the fair trade coffee.

AMEN...
There are so many ideas in my ADHD riddled brain that sometimes I have trouble getting my point accross. This summed it up. Sometimes I feel like I have forgotten myself, but see that I do have a reason for being "low key" and bland. This explains the "why" of it.
The similar thought applies to church. Yes, I get it that God loves us and doesn't care if we have nice clothes. I also get it that we are visiting "His" house and as a guest, I owe it to Him to brush my teeth and wear a clean shirt. My daughter doesn't wear shorts and flip flops, my son wears a shirt with a collar on it. I am not trying to put on airs, but I also don't want to stand out because of a lack of respect to others. Being tacky makes others uncomfortable and that, my friends, is bad manners. I hear you "what about conformity? shouldn't you just be yourself?" Well, yes. But if "yourself" makes babies cry and forces people to avoid you, then you might need to reconsider who "you" are.
